"A. R. Turner: Energy" Opens Successfully at Saatchi Gallery

13/9/2025

The Saatchi Gallery opened last night to A. R. Turner: Energy, the artist’s debut solo exhibition, curated by Nelson Qin and presented by London Art Collective (LAC). The curatorial design reinforces the exhibition’s core concept of living energy and Turner’s dialogue with nature. Through this presentation, LAC continues its mission to support emerging artists and explore the intersections of art, nature, and contemporary experience.

At the centre of Turner’s practice lies the concept of energy, a cryptic dialogue with his past self, with the marks of time, and with the subtle cadences of nature. Guided by four states (Experience, Transformation, Nature, and Pace), Turner’s works meditate on fleeting encounters and their enduring resonance. His journeys across the Sonoran Desert, the Rocky Mountains, El Picacho del Diablo, and the Acropolis culminate here in London, where energies converge, refract, and transform into a new narrative of growth and reflection.

Turner captures these energies through light, textures, and ephemeral encounters: the sudden depth of a mountain range, the glint of light on the back of a banana tree, the unexpected presence of an albino deer. His works remind us that energy is never static but always in motion: fragile, transformative, and profoundly human.

The exhibition space itself embodies this rhythm of life. An olive tree, anchors the gallery in a living presence. It connects Turner’s works to the natural cycles they contemplate, transforming the gallery into an environment where growth, stillness, and transformation coexist.

During the opening, live music selections from La La Land filled the space, guiding audiences through Turner’s landscapes of memory and perception. The melodies evoked nostalgia and the passage of time, enhancing the works’ atmosphere and encouraging visitors to slow down, attune themselves to Turner’s narrative, and engage with the fleeting yet lasting energies he seeks to reveal.

At its core, A. R. Turner: Energy invites us to confront the flux and fragility of existence. It asks us to embrace the delicate thresholds where life’s force meets vulnerability, and to discover meaning in the fragile yet powerful flows that shape both place and memory. In doing so, the exhibition affirms art as a space for resilience, transformation, and renewal.

A. R. Turner: Energy runs at the Saatchi Gallery from 12–19 September 2025.

About the Artist

A. R. Turner is a London-based artist whose work explores the beauty, fragility, and energy of the natural world. Drawing inspiration from landscapes, wildlife, and plant life, Turner translates direct encounters with nature into richly textured, surreal oil paintings. His practice combines painting with photography, architectural drafting, and 3D modelling, creating layered works that capture the transient play of light, movement, and life in the natural environment.

Turner’s painting style is balanced between density and delicacy, allowing textures and layers to convey the energy and presence of his subjects. Inspired by nature, he develops themes of resilience, regeneration, and the interconnectedness of living systems, inviting audiences to reflect on the importance of sustainability. In addition to these core concerns, Turner also expands into themes of post-conflict regeneration and the synergies created across multiple compositions, while delving into the depths of his subconscious and addressing global environmental challenges.
