Yuyang Cheng is the founder of Spectator Concept Theatre (London), an architect, experimental theatre director, AI & New Media artist, bio-art designer, and educator. Her educational roles include serving as a teaching assistant and course collaboration lecturer at the Interprofessional Studio (AAIS) of the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA School), as well as a course designer and lecturer at Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). Her teaching primarily focuses on courses such as "Poetics of the Body" and "Ecological Crisis: Ocean Enhancement". In addition, she is also an invited lecturer at Shanxi University School of Art. Cheng is renowned for her multidisciplinary background and experimental art projects, showcasing a broad perspective and innovative thinking. She has made significant creative not only in the fields of art, technology, and education but also emphasises the uniqueness of Eastern philosophy and artistic expression. As an experimental spatial theatre director, Her notable physical theatre work The Floating Life | 山海浮生 premiered in London in March 2022 and made two appearances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, one of the four major theatre festivals in the world, in 2022 and 2023 respectively. Her work is acclaimed for its distinctive experimental nature and integration of interdisciplinary technologies, combining the nuances of Eastern philosophical and artistic expression. She is dedicated to exploring the fusion of spatial poetics, body-landscape under Oriental cultural, new media art, cross-media narratives, as well as the collaborative practices of AI within art, and art therapy. As an artist, Cheng strives to avoid grand narratives but delve deeply into opening the sensory and spiritual worlds of participants. Cheng's academic background includes pursuing DDes in AI & Architectural Design at Florida International University. She recently graduated from AA School of Architecture MFA with honours in Spacial Performance Design (AAIS) 2022, MArch in Urban Design from UCL Bartlett School of Architecture 2016, and BArch from CAFA. Furthermore, she was the recipient of a full scholarship from the CSC of Special Talent Development Programme in the Arts in 2015 and participated in an academic exchange programme at KADK School of Architecture in 2014.
