In today's fast-paced era lacking a sense of security, combined with the artist's nomadic experiences of studying and growing up in Europe and then returning to China, The artist chose an image he was familiar with from his time studying and living in Europe. In a contemporary context, it metaphorically suggests a certain "chimera"-like mythological logic. This embodies the artist's characteristic black humor and metaphorical satire.
Yujian Guo, born in 1992 in Changsha, Hunan, graduated from the Painting Department of the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in Italy in 2015. His practice often focuses on mythology and personal memory, blending literary narrative, philosophical inquiry, and mystical semiotics. Through experiments in assembling fragmented imagery, he constructs immersive fields for the viewer’s mental wandering. His work favors delicate, subtle techniques to create a romantic and lingering pictorial atmosphere, serving both as a visual translation of the divinatory logic of Tarot cards and as a metaphorical response to the epistemic uncertainty of modern cognition.
He has held solo exhibitions at venues including Guangzhou K11, Shanghai Baiwork Space, Nanjing East gallery, Changsha Arch Gallery, Nanjing Powerlong Art Center, and Beijing Enjoy Art Museum. Since 2013, he has participated in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Jiushi Art Museum in Shanghai, Pingshan Art Museum in Shenzhen, China; the West Bund Art Center in Shanghai; Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence; Tianjin Binhai Art Museum; and the Blue Palace in St. Petersburg.
