'A Good Girl' explores the tension between idealized femininity and the lived experience of being a woman. Through ambiguity between pleasure and pain, delicacy and intensity, the work questions expectations of “good behavior,” while the provocative title asks what it actually means to be a “good girl.”
Mila Bernardo (b. 1994, Brazil) is a multidisciplinary visual artist based in Santos, in São Paulo’s coastal region. Her current research, Rejunte, explores the relationship between the formation of memory and the spaces we inhabit, understanding spaces not as passive backdrops to everyday life but as active participants in our experiences. Drawing from Brazilian architecture, she works across painting, sculpture, and installation, incorporating architectural elements as frames for fragments of lived experience, exploring the marks we leave on spaces and those they leave on us.
