About the work

Like ancient reliefs that narrate complex histories through frozen moments, these sculptures embody the technological and industrial forces shaping contemporary life.

‍

They are artefacts of a civilisation in transition — bas-reliefs that function simultaneously as document and critique. Here, sculpture is not merely an object but a record of its time, marked by tensions between progress and decay, permanence and obsolescence.

George Stamenov

George Stamenov (1988) graduated from the Royal College of Art in London, where he currently lives and works. His works examine the tension between historical aesthetics and technological mediation, reinterpreting traditional narratives through a contemporary lens.

‍

Drawing inspiration from his Eastern European roots his work develops a distinctive visual language that combines digital imagery with painterly sensibility, revealing the uncanny within seemingly ordinary moments. His films, sculptures, and moving-image works often amplify subtle gestures and overlooked details, transforming fleeting occurrences into extraordinary visual experiences.
