About the work

Alternate Articulation 3D Screenprint is an experiment employing 2D fabrication in the visual perception of the 3D phenomenon.

In the age of VR and AI, this piece pushes for creating visual illusions that tangible materials can create, seen with the naked eye, thus challenging the viewer’s perception of reality.

conformity.sucks

Under the artist name conformity.sucks, Danica Dsouza explores the nature of human existence in the wake of biological extinction.

Becoming disillusioned by the fashion industry while practicing as a designer, pattern cutter and maker, Danica stepped back from fashion after more than a decade, turning to storytelling through fine art practice to express the grief and anguish stemming from acute eco anxiety.

The nature of her practice is always evolving to explore craft in a variety of mediums spanning textile, wood, glass, bio-material experimentation, drawing and traditional printmaking to create objects of intrigue that are an attempt to grasp at beauty in the face of death and loss with the hope that the observer will look up from their screens and seriously notice the ever disappearing natural wonders around them.

The artworks are momento mori objects, reminding us that no matter how we try to play God, we must still face death. They are expressions of grief as a response to loss of biodiversity, existential awakening, cultural identity, solastalgia and notions of self.

Danica now works as an art framer and printmaking technician while also being a resident artist at St. Barnabas Press in Cambridge, UK.
