Cesare Lucchini

Cesare Lucchini is a Swiss-Italian painter born in Bellinzona in 1941. After graduating from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan in 1965, he lived and worked in Milan until 1988. Subsequently, he spent time in Düsseldorf and Cologne before settling in Lugano, where he continues to paint today.

Lucchini’s artistic practice is characterized by a dynamic interplay between figuration and abstraction. His expressive brushwork and rich colour palette evoke a sense of urgency and emotional depth, often addressing themes of human suffering, war, and existential crisis. His works are not intended to be documentary but are imbued with a lyrical and emotionally charged quality that seeks to convey the gravity of contemporary issues.

Throughout his career, Lucchini has exhibited extensively in Europe, with notable solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Kunstmuseum Bern, Museo Cantonale d’Arte in Lugano, and the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Neuchâtel. His work continues to resonate with audiences, offering a poignant reflection on the complexities of the human condition.
