This painting reflects my ongoing exploration of exaggerated human interactions and cultural narratives, inspired by my life experiences sketching and observing people in Iranian cafés, which serve as the main subject of this work. A theme evident in my live performances and satirical illustrations, the oversized figures and vibrant colors suggest an intentional distortion, possibly critiquing power dynamics or intimate relationships captured during those café moments. The indoor setting with a starry window hints at a blend of reality and imagination, reflecting the lively yet dreamlike atmosphere of these spaces. My intention is to provoke thought and dialogue, drawing from my experience in editorial roles and my deep engagement with café culture.
Bozorgmehr Hosseinpour, born in Tehran, Iran in 1976, holds a BS in painting from Islamic Azad University of Central Branch. A prominent caricaturist, cartoonist, and painter, my work spans solo and group exhibitions across Tehran and Paris, including notable shows like "A caricaturist in Naser-o-din Shah Harem" (Silk Road Gallery, Tehran) and "A cartoonist inside a royal harem" (Nicolas Flamel Gallery, Paris). My art, often satirical and socially engaged, has been featured in exhibitions such as "Against terrorism" (Paris) and "Kajtabi (Crookedness)" (Tehran).
My current practice encompasses caricature, painting, and live performances, blending humor with cultural commentary. I have illustrated and authored numerous books, including "Golagha’s cartoon book", "Ironies of an uncontroversial pen", and "Topsy-turvy town". My performances, like live painting with musicians at venues such as the Great Hall of the Ministry of Interior, integrate visual art with music and social themes. As the founder of Chegouneh School of Draw and a frequent contributor to publications like Hamshahri, I continue to teach, create, and exhibit works that provoke thought and dialogue, drawing on my extensive experience in editorial roles and jury memberships for international art festivals.
